Our Mission

“To use technology and collaboration to grow broadcast students into future-ready learners with industry-ready, employable live broadcast production skills.”

Where It All Started

BroadcastSIMS began the way the best ideas often do, with people who saw a problem and refused to accept it. Two college students and their former high school broadcast teacher recognized a gap that was holding back the next generation of production professionals. Students were learning about live broadcast in theory but rarely getting enough hands-on time with the equipment and workflows that actually matter.

Traditional broadcast equipment is expensive, space-intensive, and often limits meaningful practice to just a handful of students per class period. Meanwhile, the live production industry was evolving rapidly, and the skills employers needed were becoming more specialized every year. The gap between what students learned in the classroom and what they needed to succeed on the job was growing wider.

Practicing live production during the actual show is the worst possible way for students to learn. BroadcastSIMS was determined to find a way for students to learn live production while sitting in their weekday broadcast classes.

From One SIM to a Complete Suite

SwitcherSIM was the first simulation created, a web-based tool that let students experience the role of a Technical Director without needing access to a physical production switcher. The response from educators was immediate and enthusiastic.

When the COVID-19 pandemic closed schools across the country in early 2020, BroadcastSIMS stepped up. The team released simulation lessons to schools across the United States, and as far away as the American School of Dubai, helping broadcast teachers solve the virtual learning challenges that threatened to stall their programs entirely. What started as a beta quickly proved its value, and the development timeline accelerated from there.

Today, BroadcastSIMS offers a full suite of six interactive simulations, A/V Club, SwitcherSIM, ReplaySIM, DirectorSIM, AudioSIM, and GraphicsSIM, each designed to teach a specific, industry-relevant production role. What began as a single tool built by three people who believed there was a better approach to broadcast education, has grown into a comprehensive platform trusted by educators nationwide.
